My first time at The Grove. MacLean’s named it the best new restaurant in Canada. It was also recently reviewed in the New York Times.
The menu is pretty short and does not have very much for vegetarians:

We were given an amuse bouche of warm brioche rolls with coarse salt on top.
Snacks:
Lobster butty (two tiny snack-size lobster rolls on the brioche rolls we had at the start): This was very tasty but very small.

Smoked mackerel and mussels on toast:

Appetizers:
This is the house specialty — parsley root soup w/ snails, bacon, and fried bread, poured tableside. Four people in our group ordered this and really liked it.

I ordered the Smoked Chinook w/ apples, potatoes, and mustard. Very beautiful and tasty. Seeing this made a girl in our group hungry and she decided to order it too.

Lobster, white beet, endive, grapefruit, juniper. Essentially a small cold lobster salad. I would not recommend.
ps That is a hair on my plate! I really hope it is my own, but why would there be a piece of my hair immediately when my plate arrives at the table?

Mains:
Two people ordered the halibut, hens, chicken skin, red wine, bacon. One girl said it was really small portions.

Guinea fowl, carrots, sausage roll, mustard — a more substantially sized portion for an entree:

Beef, bone marrow, celeriac, gentleman’s relish (whatever that is!?!). She left some on the plate.

With the bill came some complimentary hazelnut chocolates.
