My first time at La Carnita. They have gained popularity from popup events and Toronto Underground Market.
Fresh squeezed mango juice was so delicious! A bit thick tho.
Avocado mango salad w/ cilantro, lime dressing, queso fresco & pepitas was refreshingly simple. They let the ingredients shine which was fine with me.
Mexican street corn
In Cod We Trust – Voltron sauce, lime crema, pickled red cabbage, green apple & cilantro: This was crispy/crunchy (deep fried) and too spicy for me! Others were fine with the level of heat. I can’t help but compare this to Grand Electric’s fish taco and I would have to say I prefer Grand Electric’s for taste and value. See my previous review of Grand Electric at http://weatethat.wordpress.com/2013/02/19/dinner-grand-electric/
Tostada de Ceviche – tuna, guacamole, coconut milk, habanero tomato, cucumber – some of the people I was with really liked this dish, saying it was the best out of all the dishes
Pollo Frito – Peanut mole sauce, pickled green cabbage & salsa fresca. Some found this too crispy/crunchy
Chorizo w/ mango salsa, pickled onion, queso cotija & cilantro
Crispy Avocado and Frijoles – Beans, crispy avocado, chipotle sauce, queso fresco & cilantro
Chocolate Peanut Butter Paletas – false advertising! This was peanuts, not peanut butter! Grrrr
Tres Leches Cake w/ raspberries
Overall I liked La Carnita and would go again to try some of their other seafood tacos and other paletas such as the Cookie Monster http://instagram.com/p/WXxh3ryJnq/, 5-0 http://instagram.com/p/WXw9tDyJnD/, or the Popcorn M&M paleta https://twitter.com/sashabogin/status/287676902246858752/photo/1.
