My first time at Zakkushi. I had heard good things about it.
They have a huuuuge menu; it’s a bit overwhelming. See their web site for the whole thing. They also had a special menu for the day:
I ordered the edamame. Pretty standard stuff, a little on the salty side. I found an empty, chewed pod in my order. I can only think that I or one of my dining companions inadvertently discarded their pod into the dish instead of the discard pile. I hope the kitchen didn’t serve it to me like that.
I ordered the roasted cod. I liked this dish.
I ordered the zucchini and the cherry tomatoes and basil. I needed some veg to go with all the proteins.
I ordered the garlic shrimp and the scallop skewers. I could really taste the yummy grill flavor. I liked them and it was a small serving, so I ordered seconds of each.
I thought I still had room for something else and ordered the teriyaki salmon skewer. I liked this one. It was salty but not too salty.
Here is the Shime Saba — (marinated mackerel) which two people ordered.
Here is the Spicy Salmon Sashimi.
Here is the Zakkushi set — a sampler of five different skewers, which two people ordered.
Here is the Zakkushi udon (cold udon, half boiled egg, tobiko, prawn, more) which three people ordered. They said the noodles were nice and chewy.
Here is the Nama Harumaki — a salad roll w/ tuna, avocado, and cucumber which two people ordered.
Here is the Okonomiyaki — seafood fried pancake.
Here is the Yakioni — grilled rice ball
Here are some assorted meat parts (beef, tongue, gizzard, etc.) on skewers which I did not taste.
Here is the grilled Spanish mackerel. I had a taste and thought it was dry and plain. It also had very fine bones in it.
I was torn on dessert, and the waitress recommended the Dorayaki Matcha Ice Cream (Matcha ice cream and red bean in Japanese pancake), which was one of the two I was considering ordering. I love red bean, the green tea ice cream was nice, and the pancake was nice and soft. I enjoyed this dessert.
Here is the Kuro Goma Ice Cream (homemade black sesame ice cream w/ raspberry syrup), which I had a taste of. It tasted very nutty. My friend really enjoyed this and asked if he could order a bucket of it to take home.
Here is the Kinako mochi ice cream (soy powdered sprinkled vanilla ice cream & sticky rice with maple syrup) which I did not get to taste.
I really enjoyed everything I ordered and would be happy to go again.
