My first time at Osteria dei Ganzi, a new Italian restaurant in Cabbagetown. The setting is beautiful, in a gorgeous mansion. There is a large patio outside and a bar area inside.
We started with the bread basket:
The restaurant gave us some complimentary arancini and fried olives. We thought the arancini was a bit dry and could use some sauce.
We shared the Formaggi Italiani which had pecorino, smoked provolone, and Gorgonzola. This was nice, but not a good value at $17.
We also shared the Melanzane alla Parmigiana (breaded eggplant)
Two of us ordered the Pappardelle w/ Lobster. At $16, it was a great value. The pasta was egg noodle pasta of various widths and looked housemade. It had a lot of mushrooms, and I wish it had less mushrooms and more of the zucchini. It was fairly plain, with just olive oil, and could have used a sauce or at least more salt.
One of our group ordered the Ravioloni, stuffed w/ ricotta and spinach, which looked beautiful and he enjoyed it.
Two in our group had the Housemade Gnocchi. They thought it was just OK, also undersalted. I had a taste and thought it was fairly plain.
Afterwards, the group headed to the bar area and had a great time.
Our waitress was super friendly and my water glass was constantly filled by multiple servers. The chef came out during our meal and asked us how everything was.
